Women injured after shooting at Broward Restaurant. This isn’t the first time.

Two women were rushed to the hospital for injuries incurred following a shooting Wednesday morning at a Broward restaurant, according to reporting from local news outlets.

Emergency responders were called out to the restaurant around 2 a.m. for reports of shots fired and found that one woman had been taken to HCA Florida Plantation Emergency for treatment while another was also taken to the hospital.

The first woman was shot while the second had non-shooting-related injuries. The first woman was stable as of Wednesday, according to reporting from The Miami Herald. Both women were taken to the hospital by friends.

Additional details including whether the women were patrons or employees of the restaurant or what caused the shots to be fired were not immediately available Thursday.

This is allegedly not the first occurrence of a shooting at this location. In September 2023, police were called out to the restaurant after three people were injured from a shooting that broke out. In May, a shooting spurred by an argument killed a 29-year-old at that location. Police are currently seeking the suspect in that case and a $5,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest.

Past Cases

Negligent and inadequate security is a practice area of personal injury that involves recovery for damages and injuries caused by a lack of security and other deficient conditions that played a part in attacks, physical and sexual assaults, and robberies on commercial or residential properties. The owner and or manager of the property whose responsibility it is to ensure safety for those on the property have the power to prevent or control the incident in which the victim was injured from happening. They must take reasonable steps to mitigate foreseeable crimes on their property.

Leesfield & Partners, a personal injury law firm that practices in areas like Miami, Key West and Central Florida has regularly seen the devastating aftereffects for clients of negligent security cases. Whether it is from reduced security at a shopping mall or because of inadequate security on a college campus, Leesfield & Partners attorneys have aggressively pursued the best possible outcome for their clients.

Recently, Bernardo Pimentel II, a Leesfield & Partners Trial Lawyer, filed a lawsuit on behalf of two City of Doral Police officers who were injured as the result of a shooting at a bar in Doral. The shooting resulted in the death of a security guard and the injury of seven others. The injured include two officers represented by Leesfield & Partners, one who was shot in the incident and who suffers from PTSD, and another who suffers from PTSD and severe emotional distress from watching his partner being shot. In that case, the bar’s primary security guard was absent the night of the shooting and a new security guard, one who did not have proper training, was on duty instead.

A landmark negligent security case handled by Leesfield & Partners attorneys involved a robbery at a strip mall. The Leesfield & Partners client was on the property working to repair a broken sprinkler system when he heard a woman screaming while a robber snatched her purse away from her. The Leesfield & Partners client chased down the robber, pounding on the windshield of the robber’s car to demand he return the purse to the woman and was shot through the windshield which hit him in the chest. The client sustained scarring and vascular damage to his arm.

Attorneys with the firm secured a settlement of $125,000 against the landlord and a verdict of $1,510,000 against the supermarket.

Another devastating case handled by Leesfield & Partners involved a foreign exchange student being rendered as a paraplegic after a shooting at his college campus. The student was shot as he tried to intervene when robbers attempted to steal his car. A $3.2 million settlement was secured for the student in that case.
