A program meant to enforce school bus laws was met with outrage from thousands of drivers who were issued citations and prompted a response from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

As of Friday, March 7, the program was suspended for citations given to those who passed school buses on roads with a median, according to a statement from Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, who took office in January 2025.

“When I became Sheriff, I ordered a review of the program,” Cordero Stutz said in the post Tuesday, March 11 via X. “The review led to me announcing last Friday the suspension of median enforcement citations.”

A pedestrian died after being hit by a man allegedly fleeing police and the officer in pursuit, according to authorities.

The incident happened Wednesday evening when an officer with the Orlando Police Department (OPD) was driving an unmarked Ford F-150 was pursuing a blacked-out car with no lights on, according to reporting from the Miami Herald.

The driver in the car, identified as Dornell Bargnare, 30, is accused of attempting to flee the officer.

Police have released the name of a man they believe is responsible for the death of a 6-year-old on a bicycle who was killed in a Florida neighborhood on Jan. 18, according to reporting from the Miami Herald.

Francisco Arriola, 53, was charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, DUI 3rd violation, operating a vehicle without a license causing death and running a stop sign, according to media. The incident happened around 5 p.m. on Jan. 18 in an Apopka mobile home park about a 20-mile drive northwest of Orlando. The child was riding his bike when police say Arriola, in a 2003 Chevy Suburban, ran a stop sign and hit him.

The child was taken to AdventHealth Apopka where he later died from his injuries.
