Police charge man Monday who they say threatened multiple people with a knife at a Hialeah gas station.

Joel Medina, 54, was charged Monday with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. at a Wawa gas station, 2901 W 16^th Ave in Hialeah. Witnesses reported a shirtless man threatening people with a knife and allegedly threatening to stab a man who was pumping gas. Police told reporters with the Miami Herald that Medina crossed the street and threatened several bystanders with the weapon, causing them to scatter. When Medina returned to the gas station, the man he had threatened displayed a gun, causing Medina to run away.

At least 12 people were found dead in an Indian restaurant at s Georgian ski resort Saturday, according to Georgia officials.

The bodies of 11 foreigners and one Georgian national were found on the second floor of a restaurant at the Gudauri ski resort, a retreat located on the south-facing plateau of The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range. It is believed that all 12, who have not been named as of Tuesday morning, died from carbon monoxide poisoning, according to reporting from the BBC.

Police say all 12 were restaurant employees. The suspected source of the carbon monoxide is a power generator that had been placed in an indoor, closed space near the bedrooms after a power outage.

No Kids on Social Media in Florida Starting Jan. 1. What to Know.

Soon, kids under 14 years old will be barred from having social media accounts in Florida, according to reporting from the Miami Herald.

Starting Jan. 1, all platforms with adult content, or “material that is harmful to minors,” on their sites will be compelled to verify whether users are 18 years old or older. The platforms are expected to do this via third-party age verification on new accounts. The bill does not consider sites used exclusively for email or direct messaging limited to sender and recipients as social media.

Children under 14 with accounts will see their profiles shut down and those between 14 and 15 years old will be able to have accounts only if they have permission from a parent or guardian. If an account is suspected of belonging to someone who is under 14 years of age but doesn’t, there will be a 90-day appeal window.

Brothers Face Felony Charges for Attack on Miami Mechanic Monday, officials say

Two brothers face felony charges after police accused them of attacking a worker and using his own gun against him in Miami mechanic shop brawl Monday afternoon.

Pedro Luis Rodriguez, 40, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and Angel Rodriguez-Candano, 32, was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon is a second-degree felony in Florida that, if convicted, can carry up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Penalties for aggravated assault with a firearm include up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000, if convicted.

The alleged incident stemmed from a dispute that broke out Monday afternoon at Tire Liquidators, a shop located at 2090 Southwest 67th Avenue. Police told local reporters that the two brothers argued with the unnamed mechanic over past repairs made to Rodriguez’s vehicle. The two brothers allegedly followed the mechanic into the shop’s office where, police said, Rodriguez began punching him several times. At one point in the altercation, the mechanic pulled out a gun that Rodriguez-Candano lunged for, according to the report. The brawl between the three men continued until the mechanic fired the weapon three times.

The operator of a boat involved in a 2022 boat crash in Boca Chita Key that killed one teen and permanently injured another has been ordered to surrender to police after news broke last month he would be facing vessel homicide charges, according to local news outlets.

The order was signed by a judge Wednesday and calls for 54-year-old George Pino, a Miami real estate developer, to surrender to authorities. In addition to the vessel homicide charge, Pino will allegedly face one count of driving a vessel in a reckless manner.

Leesfield & Partners Attorneys Secure Confidential Settlement in case of mother and 5-year-old injured after a car crashed through Discount Store

Leesfield & Partners attorneys recently secured a confidential settlement for a woman and her 5-year-old son after a car drove into the Florida discount store where they waited at the checkout line.

While the mother and son were waiting with other customers to pay for their items, a car came crashing through the store. The mother was able to pull her child out of the way but not before the crash tore through his right ankle, causing severe lacerations to an artery and tendons that required several invasive surgeries. As a result of the incident, the child had to undergo six different procedures in three weeks.

Not only did the convenience store not have concrete security bollards installed at its entrance, but large cardboard boxes stacked up against the front of the store blocked the customers’ view, leaving them unaware of the approaching car until it was too late.

Lawsuit Filed in Case of City of Doral Police Department Officers injured in April shooting at Martini Bar

Two police officers with the City of Doral Police Department are suing a local bar, its managing company, a security company and one other after a man was allowed inside the location with a gun.

The shooting happened on April 6, 2024, at the Martini Bar Doral, located at 3450 NW 83rd Ave., Suite 144. The two officers, Andre A. Romo and Ricardo A. Acevedo, were patrolling the area on off-duty detail when a dispute broke out involving 37-year-old Jamal Wayne Wood who entered the bar with a gun. The shooting resulted in the death of a security guard and the injury of seven others, including the two responding officers. Wood was also killed that night by responding officers.

Acevedo and and Romo responded to the scene after seeing the chaos of fleeing patrons. Both officers were injured by the stampede of customers as they tried to get inside to stop Wood’s rampage. Wood aimed and shot at Romo and Acevedeo and the other officers who responded to the scene. Romo was “dangerously close” to being hit and Acevedo was shot in the leg, mere centimeters from his femoral artery, according to a lawsuit filed Monday by Bernardo Pimentel II, a Trial Attorney with Leesfield & Partners, P.A..
