One Dead, Two Others Hospitalized Following I-95 Crash Friday

A fatal, overnight crash that killed one and left two others in the hospital caused parts of I-95 to still be shut down Friday morning.

The crash happened around 2:20 a.m. near Northwest 119th Street on I-95 when a Dodge SUV driver lost control of the vehicle, slamming into a concrete wall, according to local media.

A black Honda sedan crashed into the dodge and several others who were standing in the road.

One woman was pronounced dead at the scene and two others who were injured were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

Injuries resulting from car accidents are among some of the most common claims that come across the desks of personal injury attorneys across the United States. The Department of Justice estimates that motor vehicle crashes account for over half of all personal injury cases in the country. In nearly five decades of representing injured clients throughout Florida, Leesfield & Partners attorneys have accumulated extensive experience when it comes to securing the best possible outcome for their injured clients and grieving families.

The highest award amount achieved for a client represented by the firm to date was a car accident case involving a drunk driver who carelessly careened down the wrong side of I-95 while speeding. The family was on their way to drop off their daughter at her medical school’s orientation was hit head-on by the reckless actions of this individual.

This tragedy changed their lives forever, resulting in the death of their daughter and severe brain and orthopedic injuries for their 21-year-old son. The injuries left the young man wheelchair-bound and unable to speak, requiring constant care for the rest of his life.

Leesfield & Partners attorneys were able to secure a $95 million settlement amount for the family with $57 million going to the son and $38 million to the parents.

Another Leesfield & Partners case involving a pedestrian resulted in severe injuries after a pickup truck driver failed to see signs and our client crossing the street as she headed back to her office from a mid-day break. The driver was making an illegal left turn when our client was hit, causing her severe injuries that included skull fractures and brain hemorrhages.

The maximum recovery amount of $6 million was awarded to the client in this case.

A 22-year-old Leesfield & Partners client was a passenger in a car when it was hit by a drunk driver trying to evade police. The car was stopped as a drawbridge at the time of the crash. Our client suffered permanent brain injuries, memory loss and chronic seizures as a result.

Attorneys with the firm secured a $15.4 million verdict for the injured man.

The firm also obtained an $8,650,000 settlement and a $7,995,467 wrongful death arbitration award in the case of three teenagers hit by a commercial truck making an illegal U-turn on the turnpike. The girls were on their way to the library when the truck turned directly into their lane. One of the girls died in the horrific incident and the other two sustained substantial injuries.

Other cases handled by the firm include over $5 million for a 34-year-old mother of three who suffered permanent brain damage after her car was run over by another speeding vehicle and a $1.4 million settlement secured for a client injured in a head-on collision.
